A few weeks ago, Tom was at the
farm alone with the hounds and cats,
when an uninvited visitor waltzed in
through the six inch square
doggy-door and began flying from
one ceiling fan to the next, in the
main room, which is 30' X 40' with
11' ceilings. With six teacup
chihuahuas and five seven week old
kittens underfoot, Tom feared the
'guest' - a very large Barred Owl -
might be in search of a meal! The
smallest of the dogs, weighing just
under one pound, was the most
ferocious and chased the owl up the
stairs - although with a six foot
wingspan, it had to hop rather than
fly! Mr. Owl lounged on our bed for
a while until we were able to get the
window open for him to fly out. He
was in no hurry and, merely alighted
on the edge of the roof, right outside
the window, to sit and stare back in
at us, as if to say "Hey, I was
perfectly comfortable there!".
