What Would I Gain If I Spoke With A Plane?
In this tale, an
individual is
reminiscing about an
airplane from their
childhood.
The narrator's father
was the pilot, who
carefully maintained
the Piper Cherokee
235 while flying for
several decades.
While contemplating
all the adventures as a
passenger in
"Three-Two", the
narrator imagines the
plane to be talking -
elaborating on the
story from its own
perspective!
It was a lot of fun to go
Up flying with my Dad,
One - Zero - Zulu was our
Favorite rental plane they had.
Each airplane has some numbers
And some letters on it’s side,
To radio the tower
So the planes do not collide.
For every letter, there’s a word
The pilots have to use,
Because some letters sound so close
They’re easy to confuse.
So, ‘Zulu’ stands for letter ‘Z’
And ‘Niner’ is for ‘9’;
The pilots all wear headsets
That help block the engine’s whine.
As time went on, my father
Got an airplane of his own;
I have lots of good memories
Of fun places we have flown.
The plane we had, with four seats
Was a Piper Cherokee -
And when we called the tower,
We said “Here’s three - two - whiskey!”
We went to Beaumont, Kansas
Where we landed on the grass
And taxied down the main street
To the restaurant - all first class!
Sometimes, we’d fly to other towns
For airport restaurant fare;
Sometimes, we’d just do ‘touch - and - go’s’
And not go anywhere!
