The Tale Of The Rail,
If Told By
The Train's Tail
Watch for this story - it will be the next one released in our series!
This story is all about an old
Santa Fe Caboose that holds
so much more than what is
visible to the naked eye!

This caboose now resides in
the backyard of a home in
the country.
The narrator begins by
reminiscing about the history
of the railroad, while
throwing in a few personal
experiences.  Soon, the
narration becomes a dream,
in which the caboose is
highligting its own story.

This tale is one that can be
enjoyed by anyone of any
age - especially if you are
already fond of trains!

Over at my folk's house

There's a piece of railroad track -

And on it, sits an old caboose

They bought, a few years back.

It’s from a Santa Fe train

That traveled far and wide,

Back when the railroad was the way

To see the countryside.

Cabooses were the end cars

Of trains across the land

And housed accommodations

For the crews they’d have on hand.

‘Santa Fe,    All the Way!’

The slogan used to say;

And passengers would board the train

For business and for play.
There was a time, when nationwide

The train did not exist.

The tracks were laid cross country,

As promoters did persist.

Back then, transport was different,

By buggy or by horse -

Merchandise deliveries

Were pretty slow, of course.
Excerpt:
Thank You For Looking!
The pictures below are photos of the actual Santa Fe Caboose that sits at Starshire Farm, in honor
of Hugo Carl Hermann and his beautiful wife Helen Geneva Hermann.  Hugo was a career
machinist for Santa Fe.
Helen and Hugo were a delightful couple that defy description -
to know them was to love them!
Posing atop the caboose, you
see Heather Schmidt - a
charming young lady that Tom
and I are extremely fond of -
and - she lives quite near The
Tree!
