About Us
Tom and Jancy have a visit from John and Yoko!
As a team, Tom and Jancy plan to continue creating
wonderful reading material, for young and old alike. In
keeping with their passion for recycling, they like to
‘recycle’ information and images from our nation’s past
- while hoping to inspire anyone who reads their books
to think about, appreciate and learn more about the
history of this country - while gaining understanding
and compassion for other living things.
Jancy’s talent has spanned geological drafting
(sans mechanical aids), illustrating cookbooks
(like Kansas Country Flavors), logo designs,
wall murals and so much more!
Her writing skills have been utilized for
everything from greeting card poetry to
corporate training material and company
newsletters, in addition to children’s books.
She lives in an old, native stone schoolhouse -
just a little ways north of the route of The
Santa Fe Trail - that she shares with a tribe of
rescued animals, including Irish Wolfhounds,
Teacup Chihuahuas and a pot-bellied pig,
among others.
While horses are her preferred mode of
transportation, she drives ecologically friendly
Morris Minors (including one she hand
painted as the Beatles’ Yellow Submarine -
featured in the film “Morris Minors Across
America“). And, she recycles everything,
somehow (like weaving old blue jeans into
carpeting on her rug loom), asking others to do
likewise.

Tom Dunn was born in Kansas
City, Missouri. He grew up in
the Kansas City area, mostly
in Overland Park, Kansas -
where he still has a home..
That home is along what was
at one time known as The
Santa Fe Trail - and as you
may have guessed, it’s just a
stone’s throw from where THE
TREE is growing.
Tom’s art career started quite
early, when he sold his first
pencil still life at the age of
10. He learned airbrushing at
age 12 and earned a National
Art Honor Society Award at
age 14. Then, at 15 years
old, he was mentored by
airbrushing icon Tomm Davison.
Following a tour of duty in the
Army, high school friends Tom,
Tomm Davison and Jerry
French, opened unique stores in
Kansas City, “For Your
Pleasure” and Overland Park,
“Choosey Beggar” - where Tom
plied his talents to write ad
copy and design layouts, for
their radio commercials and
printed media.
After a decade, this business
evolved into one that took him
to nearly every major city in
the U.S., repeatedly, from
1982 to the present.
He managed to visit six foreign
countries, as well.
In addition, from 1994 on,
Tom took his business on a
musical journey, touring first
with Lollapalooza, then with
Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne’s
Ozzfest.
With this background, Tom
never dreamed he would one
day write and illustrate
children’s books!
